LUBBOCK, TX-- The Dustdevils scored five runs in a seventh inning comeback that falls just short, resulting in an 8-7 loss against the Lubbock Christian Chaps inside Hays Field.
TAMIU (10-13) got on the board first with Jesus Sosa hitting a two RBI single up the middle scoring Tristan Cavazos and Eduardo Espinoza in the second inning.
Lubbock Christian (11-12) did not respond until the bottom of the fourth with Carlos Mauldin hitting an RBI single into left field and Johnny Gomez III hitting a three RBI home run put them up 5-2. This inning saw Chaps collect five total hits, scoring five runs with three walks and three stolen bases.
The Chaps lead got larger scoring three runs in the next two innings, putting them up 8-2 heading into the seventh.
In the top of the seventh, the Dustdevils' Isaac Stanwick and Giovanni Malatesta both hit RBI singles, which brought up Saul Soto who hit a three RBI triple into right center cutting the Chaps lead down to 8-7.
In the final two innings of work the Dustdevils could not get a hit with Chaps pitchers Kyle England, and Isaiah Gonzales collecting three strikeouts to hold off the comeback.
The Dustdevils lose game one and look to continue the series over the weekend.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Junior Shortstop, Jesus Sosa, went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, now currently hitting .250 on the season. Sosa is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
