Dustdevils Lose Close One Against ASU At Home

LAREDO,TEXAS   Dustdevils starting pitcher A.J Sanchez goes into six innings of work collecting five strikeouts in a tough game one loss 3-2 inside Jorge Haynes Field.  

TAMIU (10-17) lead early on scoring two runs in the third after four walks scored one and a sac fly by Asahi Nakano gave them an early 2-0 lead.  

Angelo State (18-9) in the sixth saw Blake Wilhoite single to get on base, Brett Smajstrla brought him home with an RBI single to center, 2-1.  

In the seventh, the Rams found themselves bases loaded after a walk by Sanchez. This brought in R.J. Patrick in relief work who saw a Sac-fly RBI by Christian Garnett tying it 2-2, followed by two walks. This brought in William Boucher on the mound. Blake Wilhoite then hits an RBI single to secure a 3-2 lead.  

Dustdevils in the ninth trailing by one saw Giovanni Malatesta single up center field and Derek Garcia place a bunt down to get to first, two runners on. David Benitez pops up into a double play, getting Malatesta out with the tag up on second. Fabrizio Salinas pinch-hit for Isaac Stanwick getting on base with a walk. Bases loaded Ciro Benavides facing a full count struck out giving the Rams a game one win 3-2.  

Dustdevils continue the series with a double header on Saturday and finale on Sunday inside Jorge Haynes Field. 

 
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT:
 Sophomore Pitcher, A.J Sanchez, in his third start of the season collected four strikeouts by his third inning of work, holding batters to .222 collecting a total of five in his longest appearance of the season (6.0 innings). Sanchez is currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
