TAMIU Baseball Falls In Game One Against UT Dallas

LAREDO, TEXAS—The Comets of UT Dallas hold the Dustdevils to six hits stealing game one, 12-4 inside Jorge Haynes Field Friday.  

UT Dallas (23-8) got on the board early on with three runs scoring in the third inning by an RBI single to center by Nico Fernandez, and a two-run triple by Jake Amoroso.  

In the top of the fourth, Nico Fernandez scores another run; this time a sac-fly off his bat brings in Gavin Barker, extending the lead to 4-0.  

TAMIU (11-20) responded in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single by Asahi Nakano, followed by two Comet errors scoring Jacob Angell and Nakano to only trail by one.  

The Comets then scored two runs in the fifth and sixth to extend their lead to five.  

In the bottom of the eighth Jesus Sosa hit an RBI single scoring Eddie Saenz cutting the Comet lead to four, 8-4. 

Comets in the top of the ninth facing closer Billy Winans collect three hits scoring four runs extending their lead to 12-4 taking game one of the series inside Jorge Haynes Field.   

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Junior Shortstop, Jesus Sosa, went 1-for-4 with two runs batted in. This now ties Tristan Cavazos for 4th on the team with 11 runs batted in. Sosa is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
