CANYON, TEXAS - The Dustdevils lose two seven inning contests in a road doubleheader against the Buffs final scores of 5-3 and 9-2 Saturday inside Wilder Park.
Doubleheader Game One, 5-3, Loss
TAMIU (16-29) got a run on the board in the first, tying the Buffs with an RBI single by Jesus Sosa to right field.
WT (26-19) responded in the third with an RBI single up the middle by Tristin Thomas.
Dustdevils Ciro Benavides in the fourth took a one-run lead with a two RBI single to center scoring Sosa and Derek Garcia.
Buffs tied it once more in the sixth with a Zac Rackham sac fly to left scoring Jonluke Hobdy. The Buffs continued to tack on two more runs with an RBI single by Jake Alwine and a walk bases loaded scoring Anthony Picciano.
The Dustdevils got one aboard with a single by Derek Garcia in the seventh but unfortunately no runs could come home to score.
Doubleheader Game Two, 9-2, Loss
The Buffs got things going early on scoring the first run in the second with a sac fly by Daniel Castellanos bringing in Thomas.
Dustdevils responded immediately in the third with Asahi Nakano getting on with a walk, Garcia singled up the middle, and Eddie Saenz hitting a two-run double into left making it a one run lead for the Buffs.
Both teams remained scoreless in the fourth, but in the fifth Dustdevils were forced into three different pitching changes as four walks and three hit-by-pitches put the Buffs in a position to score. This was then followed by a three-run triple by Tristin Thomas, a sac fly, and two walked in runs.
That fifth inning push by the Buffs was the final runs scored in the ballgame by either team. The Dustdsevils collected two runs off five hits while the Buffs won, collecting ten runs off seven hits.
TAMIU plays West Texas A&M in the series finale Sunday afternoon inside Wilder Park.
PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Junior Shortstop, from Carmargo, Chihuahua, Mexico, Jesus Sosa has collected a total of seven hits in the last four games and today he collected three with an RBI. Sosa is currently pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
