Kolaric Sparks Dustdevils in 2-0 Win Over UTPB
LAREDO, Texas – Texas A&M International University women's soccer used goals on each side of halftime and a dominant defensive performance to earn a 2-0 shutout victory over UT Permian Basin on Wednesday at Dustdevil Field.
The Dustdevils (2-6-0, 2-3-0 LSC) controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting the Falcons 21-3 while putting 11 attempts on frame. TAMIU also held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
TAMIU generated several early opportunities before breaking through in the 23rd minute. Arianna Arboleda set up Ida Kolaric, who found the back of the net at the 22:27 mark to give the Dustdevils a 1-0 advantage.
The Dustdevils carried the one-goal lead into halftime after holding UTPB to just one shot during the opening 45 minutes.
TAMIU wasted little time adding to its advantage after the break. Just 1:29 into the second half, Milly Garcia scored to double the lead and put the Dustdevils ahead 2-0.
From there, TAMIU continued to apply pressure, recording 13 shots and five corner kicks in the second half. The Dustdevils nearly added to their lead on multiple occasions, including a Julissa Gonzalez attempt that struck the post in the 73rd minute.
Defensively, the Dustdevils kept the Falcons from registering a single shot on goal. Patricia Perez played all 90 minutes in net to record the clean sheet, while TAMIU limited UTPB to just three total attempts.
Kolaric and Garcia accounted for TAMIU's two goals, while Arboleda picked up the assist on the opening score. Lisa Stoico led the Dustdevils with four shots, while Kolaric recorded two shots on goal.
With the victory, TAMIU improves to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in Lone Star Conference play.

Kolaric is a freshman midfielder for Texas A&M International University and is currently pursuing a degree in Psychology. A native of Großklein, Austria, Ida is the daughter of Rene and Lydia Kolaric and was born on June 19, 2008.
