Jeremy Espinoza enters his third season as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Texas A&M International University. During the 2018-19 season, Espinoza’s team led the Heartland Conference in overall defense and the Dustdevils ranked 37th in NCAA Division II in that category by holding opponents to only 68.2 points per game.
In his first season with the Dustdevils, he helped lead the 2017-18 team to a berth in the Heartland Conference Tournament.
Espinoza joined TAMIU in the fall of 2017 after spending the previous two years as a graduate assistant for Newman University.
The Uvalde, Texas native both played and coached for the Jets in Wichita, Kan. Espinoza spent two years with the Jets as a player before graduating in 2015. On the court, he garnered All-Heartland Conference Honorable Mention team honors after appearing in 52 games, including 51 starts where he averaged 14.3 points per game.
After graduating from NU, Espinoza chose to continue his education and jumpstart his career in the same setting. He joined the Jets coaching staff as a graduate assistant in 2016 helping the team make back-to-back Heartland Conference Tournament appearances.
He graduated with his master's degree in Organizational Leadership in May 2017.
Espinoza resides in Laredo and has a son, Jamari T. Espinoza.
