Mitch McKay

Mitch McKay joins the Dustdevils soccer program with over 5 years coaching experience at the collegiate and semi-professional level. Prior to joining TAMIU he was the assistant men’s soccer coach for the 9-time NAIA national champions Lindsey Wilson College. McKay led the Blue Raiders to back to back Final Four appearances in 2012 & ’13, and a Sweet 16 appearance in 2014. His teams also won two MSC Conference Championships (’13 &’14) and two MSC Tournament Championships (’12 & ’14). The Blue Raiders had a 33 game win streak during this span, the second longest in NAIA history. 
 
While at Lindsey Wilson, McKay coached and recruited and impressive 9 NAIA All-Americans and 26 MSC All-Conference athletes. Two of these were selected in the MLS Draft (2013-Lebogang Moloto: Seattle Sounders 2014-Albert Edwards Colorado Rapids.
 
McKay has experience coaching in the semi-professional ranks with the Upward Stars (NPSL) and Southern California Seahorse (PDL). In their inaugural season the Stars won the 2014 South-Atlantic Conference Championship, reached the South Region Semi-finals, and qualified for the 2015 US Open cup.
 
Prior to coaching at LWC, McKay was the head men’s soccer coach at Lyon College (NAIA). In his first year as the Head Coach at Lyon College he led the program its fourth consecutive winning season, going 9-8-2 in 2011. He helped the Scots to consecutive appearances in the TranSouth Conference Tournament and recorded its highest win over an NAIA Top 25 opponent (#8 USAO) in school history. He coached 6 All-Conference player and 5 NAIA Academic All-Americans. During the 2010 soccer season, McKay served as the assistant to both the men's and women's teams at Lyon. Both teams saw success, with each squad recording the most wins in school history and the women advancing to the TranSouth Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.
 
McKay played collegiately for Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC. In 2008 as a senior McKay made 109 saves in net and was named 1st team All-Conference, All-Region, and SWU Senior Male Athlete of the Year. He was a three-year captain and started all four years in goal for the Warriors. While in college McKay earned several awards including, 3 time All-Conference (2006-08), 4 time All Region (2005-07), 2 time NAIA Academic All-American (’07-’08), SSAC Defensive Player of the Week (2008), SWU Senior Male Athlete of the Year (2008), and 2005 SWU Newcomer of the Year.
 
Following a stellar collegiate career, McKay signed with the Southern California Seahorses in the USL's Professional Development League. He has since played for the Upward Stars (NPSL) leading them to a South-Atlantic Conference Championship and South Region semi-final playoff appearance.
 
McKay a native of Owosso, MI, earned his master’s in business administration from Campbellsville University in 2014 and his bachelor degree from Southern Wesleyan University in business administration/accounting in 2009, graduating summa cum laude.
