Tyra Brown enters her second season on staff with the Texas A&M International University women’s basketball program in 2025-26. She brings a strong background in player development, recruiting and program operations. Brown comes to Laredo after serving as an assistant coach at Western New Mexico University for two seasons. While at WNMU, Brown was instrumental in scouting opponents, developing guard play and assisting with recruiting efforts that brought high-level talent to the program.
Before her time at WNMU, Brown gained experience in basketball operations and athlete support through her work coordinating scrimmages, managing travel logistics and overseeing scholarship and budget processes for collegiate programs. She has also played a key role in recruiting showcases and talent identification, helping connect numerous student athletes to scholarship opportunities at the NCAA level.
A former collegiate player herself, Brown competed at Jefferson College, Coastal Carolina University and Southeast Missouri State, where she was recognized for her leadership, defensive tenacity and high basketball IQ. Her experience as a student athlete drives her passion for mentoring players, fostering growth both on the court and in the classroom.
A native of St. Louis, MO, Brown earned her bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Coastal Carolina University. She is committed to contributing to the Dustdevils’ culture of hard work, accountability and team success in the Lone Star Conference.
