Kayla attended high school at John B. Alexander High School in Laredo, Texas. She lettered in Basketball for three years, Track & Field for one year, and Softball for two years. Her list of accolades is extensive, including being an All-State Point Guard, an All-State MVP Player of the Year, and earning a place on the All-South Texas 2nd Team. Her dedication to her studies is equally impressive, with recognition as part of the All-State Academic Team and the All-District Academic Team. Her academic achievements, including a GPA of 100.4, equivalent to a 4.0, and a ranking in the top 15 percent of her graduating class of 2022.

During her junior college journey at Temple College in Temple, Texas, representing the Leopards, Kayla excelled academically and athletically. She maintained a remarkable 4.0 GPA and earned a spot on the President's List. Her career highlights at the junior college level include an impressive game where she scored 20 points.

One of Kayla's most significant high school career highlights was reaching the milestone of 1500 total points, a testament to her scoring prowess. Her statistical achievements, especially during her senior year, include averaging 19.1 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, 4.7 assists per game, and 3.3 steals per game.
