Matt DeLong joined the Dustdevils as an assistant coach in August of 2020. DeLong brings with him nearly a decade of collegiate coaching and playing experience.
He came to TAMIU after spending two seasons as the second assistant coach at NCAA Division I Colgate University. He helped guide the Raiders to a 24-8 record in 2019, including an appearance in the quarterfinals of the National Invitational Volleyball (NIV) Championship. While there, DeLong was responsible for overseeing all team operations and managing all film exchange, breakdown and scouting. Additionally, helped run drills and assisted with all recruiting activities, as well as organizing and running all camps and clinics.
DeLong got his collegiate coaching career started as a volunteer assistant at Syracuse University. At ‘Cuse, he helped guide the team to a 22-14 record and an appearance in the quarterfinals of the 2017 NIV Championship. With the Orange, DeLong helped with all scouting, statistics and video breakdown. He also helped run drills and assisted with recruiting paperwork.
DeLong also spent time as a head coach in the club volleyball scene with the youth girls 16s team of the NETVC club.
As a player, DeLong had a successful career as a four-year setter for Division II King University, where he led his team to a 28-4 record in his senior season in 2017.
A native of Victor, N.Y., DeLong holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education with minors in business and coaching from King University.
