Dustdevils Sweep Doubleheader over Oklahoma Panhandle St.

GOODWELL, Okla. - The Texas A&M International University baseball team picked up two must-have wins over Oklahoma Panhandle State Friday night, topping the Aggies 9-2 in game one and 5-3 in game two.

GAME ONE: TAMIU 9, OPSU 2

The Dustdevils pounded out ten hits in the opening game, led by Senior Will Wurth who finished 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBI. Jeremy Olivo and Jeff Anderson each went 2-4 with an RBI, while Alex Salas was 1-4 with two RBI.

Jerry Hawkins picked up the win for TAMIU giving up no runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks through 6.0 innings of work.

The Dustdevils went to work quickly, scoring four runs over the first two innings before adding three in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a commanding 9-0 lead.

The Aggies were able to pick up two in the bottom of the ninth, but reliever Marty Bigham closed the deal striking out Avery Bet-Payumo to end the game.

GAME TWO: TAMIU 5, OPSU 3

In the second game, OPSU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Dustdevils responded with two runs in the second to even things up. The Aggies added one in the seventh grabbing a 3-2, but once again TAMIU had an answer.

The Patient Dustdevil hitters drew two walks to start the top of the ninth and then loaded the bases with a third walk two batters later. Alex Salas singled to tie the game at three and then Beto Castillo hit a sacrifice fly to right to give TAMIU the 4-3 lead. After Ramon Sandoval drew the innings fourth walk, Beto Castillo hit a sac fly to give TAMIU the 5-3 edge.

The Aggies were able to load up the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but Danny Navarro was able to shut the door.

With the win the Dustdevils improved to 9-14 in conference play as they look for the season sweep Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
