Final Stats

WICHITA, Kan. - As was the case in the series opener, the Texas A&M International University baseball team managed to collect twelve hits against the Newman pitching staff, but stranded 11 runners on base as the Dustdevils fell 12-4 in their series finale.

TAMIU used seven pitchers in the losing effort with Manolo Mendoza getting the bulk of the work. Mendoza allowed four runs on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 3.0 innings, but the loss went to freshman Stephen Dickerson, his first of the season, after allowing two runs on three hits in just 0.2 innings of work.

Four Dustdevils recorded multi-hit games led by Matt Arruda who finished 3-5, but TAMIU finished only 5-23 with runners in scoring position.

After a scoreless first inning, Newman took a 1-0 lead in the second scoring when Ben Wagner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two away.

The Dustdevils responded in the third with a pair of runs to grab a 2-1 lead. Jaron Shimmel led off the inning with a single, but was thrown out at second on an attempted sacrifice bunt by Jeremy Olivo. Jeff Anderson moved Olivo to third on a single to right field before stealing second. Wurth brought Olivo home on a groundout to the shortstop before Austin Voros singled to right plating Anderson.

From that point on it was all Newman as the Jets scored nine unanswered runs over the next five innings to blow the game open.

TAMIU managed to get two runs back in the eighth, but Newman responded with a pair of their own in the bottom half to take the wind out of the Dustdevils sails.

The loss drops the Dustdevils to 13-17 in conference play with six conference games remaining. TAMIU will host St. Mary's in a three game series starting Friday, April 27 and will close the season versus St. Edward's on the road Friday, May 4.
