Final Stats
KINGSVILLE -The Texas A&M Kingsville offense exploded for 14 hits, nine of them for extra bases, as the Texas A&M International University baseball team fell to the Javelinas 14-9 Tuesday night at Nolan Ryan Field.
The Javelinas battered starting pitcher Donald Fennell, connecting on four doubles and a triple to score six runs in the first inning. Kingsville added another run in the second off reliever Stephen Dickerson to grab a commanding 7-1 lead.
The Dustdevils managed to trim the lead to 7-6 after scoring five runs in the fourth, but Kingsville responded with seven runs over the next four innings to put the game out of reach.
TAMIU finished the game with 13 hits led by Will Wurth who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI's and a double. Korey Gosselin drove in two runs and had a pair of doubles. Donald Fennell took the loss falling to 2-1, after allowing five runs without recording an out to start the game.
With the loss, the Dustdevils overall record slips to 23-21 on the season. TAMIU remains in fifth place in the conference standings with a 13-17 record, 2 ½ games behind Arkansas Fort-Smith for the final spot in the Heartland Conference Tournament.
The Dustdevils have two more conference series' remaining in the season starting with a home series versus the number two team in the country, St. Mary's, on Friday, April 27. They will close on the road with a three game series versus St. Edward's on Friday, May 4.
