Women’s Soccer Wins Double OT Thriller

Box Score ODESSA, Texas – The TAMIU women’s soccer team just keeps finding ways to win
.
Trailing conference foe UT-Permian Basin 1-0 with only 30 seconds remaining in regulation Thursday night, junior Sam Zerelli sent the game into extra time burying a penalty kick to tie the game after UTPB was called for a handball in the defensive zone.  The Dustdevils were unable to breakthrough in the first overtime, but in the second freshman Valeria Jaramillo scored a golden goal with only two minutes remaining to give the Dustdevils a 2-1 win.

Kourtnye Chandler scored the Falcons lone goal of the game in the 61st minute, beating TAMIU keeper Aissa Pedraza off a corner kick from Alyssa Eich.

The win lifts TAMIU’s overall record to 6-1 on the season and keeps their unblemished conference record intact at 4-0.  The Dustdevils have already surpassed the school record for the most Division II wins in a single season and are now only three wins away from tying the all-time school record for wins NAIA or Division II (9-9-2), which was set back in 2003.

TAMIU dominated possession for the majority of the match, outshooting the Falcons 17-8 including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.  Zerelli finished with two shots and one assist, while Jaramillo’s only shot of the game proved to be the game winner.  Sol Medina and Jessica Parker added three shots apiece and Alyssa Perez, Whitney Fullmer, and Kirsten Jennings each added two.  Keeper Aissa Pedraza improved to 5-1 with the win, finishing with four saves.

The Dustdevils will be looking for their seventh consecutive win Saturday afternoon, as they head to Abilene, Texas to battle the McMurry War Hawks who have lost three straight.
