Texas A&M International extended its season-opening winning streak to six games with a 10-5 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday afternoon at Uni-Trade Stadium.  The Dustdevils powered to the win that marks the first 6-0 start in school history behind the dual strengths of a 14-hit offensive attack and a clutch extended relief pitching performance by Stephen Dickerson.

TAMIU jumped out to a 5-0 lead with five runs scored in the bottom of the first inning.  The scoring in that frame got started with a RBI triple by Fernando Garza off the left field wall.  Alex Salas stretched the lead to 3-0 with a RBI triple hit to the right field wall.  He would then score on an infield error before Sean Smedley drove in Matt Garcia with a RBI single to stretch the lead to 5-0.

OPSU (0-6) score three unearned runs off TAMIU starter Manolo Mendoza in the top of the second inning but that’s as close as the Aggies would get, thanks in large part to Dickerson.

Smedley contributed a two-strike RBI single in the third inning to stake the Dustdevils to a 6-3 lead before Garza tripled again in the sixth inning, scoring on an Aggie throwing error back into the infield to push the lead to 8-3.

OPSU cut the Dustdevil lead to 8-5 with a two-run eighth inning but Garza came through again, delivering  a two-run home run blast to left field in the top of the ninth inning to provide TAMIU a comfortable 10-5 lead.

Garza finished the day 3-for-5 with two triples, a home run and three RBI.  Alex McKeon also finished with three hits with Jeff Anderson, Salas and Smedley contributing two hits apiece.

Dickerson (1-0) entered the game in the top of the third inning to relieve Dustdevil starter Mendoza, who was struggling with control problems.  Dickerson contributed five shutout innings before allowing a two-run eighth inning.  He went 6.0 innings in the win, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Jared Curnel pitched the ninth inning for the Dustdevils, retiring the Aggies in order to finish off the win.
