Jackson Jams 2nd Straight Career High Vs. OC

TAMIU falls despite strong senior performances

Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Texas A&M International saw a trio produce inspirational individual performances at Oklahoma Christian on Thursday, but the final result didn't combine to create a victory as the Dustdevils fell to the Lady Eagles, 80-73.

In just the Dustdevils' second Heartland Conference loss, senior forward Malika Jackson pounded OC for a 31-point-and-10-rebound double-double while guards Samantha Chacon and Re'Nikia Meshack scored 18 and 10 points, respectively.

Jackson's 31 points were a combined result of her 10-for-13 (77 percent) from the field and 11-for-14 (79 percent) from the free throw line. It stands as the 6-foot tall Palmdale, Calif., native's second consecutive double-double and also as her career high in points. In the Dustdevils' last game, a 79-69 victory over St. Edward's, Jackson scored a then-career-high 27 points.

Against OC on Thursday, she also converted an assist and a couple of steals while playing all but one minute.

Chacon, a senior and former Heartland Player of the Week, played every second of the game while shooting 50 percent (7-for-14) from the field and 100 percent (4-for-4) from the line. She also pulled in six rebounds to complement her block, steal and two assists.

Meshack added to her 10 points with four rebounds and two assists.

Starting sophomore Jessica Prieto scored eight points to match her eight rebounds while dishing an assist with two steals and three blocks.

Jessica Woo came off the bench to score six points.

With the loss, the Dustdevils (13-4, 9-2 Heartland) fall into a tie with the dormant St. Mary's (13-3, 8-2 Heartland) for first place in the league.

The Dustdevils will return to the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building on Jan. 30 to host Oklahoma Panhandle State (1-16, 1-10 Heartland) while the Rattlers next face OC on Saturday.
