SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Ed Messbarger Tip-Off Classic closed on Saturday night with Texas A&M International University challenging host Angelo State at the Junell Center in San Angelo, Texas. The Dustdevils (0-2, 0-0 Heartland Conference) fell, 86-51.
Senior Jamie Farrie came off the bench and into the post as the Dustdevils leading scorer and second-best rebounder – all while playing just 14 minutes. His 10 points came off a 3-for-7 shooting performance from the field and a 4-for-8 mark at the free throw line. He finished with four rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Sharpshooter Patrick Carlson hit 3-of-7 of his 3-pointers to finish with nine points in 22 minutes and Anthony Alston shot 50 percent from the field (3-for-6) to finish with eight points, four rebounds and two assists in 20 minutes.
Both Carlson and Farrie featured off the bench on a night that TAMIU's non-starters scored more than half the team's points total. Substitutes scored 29 of TAMIU's 51 points.
The Dustdevils were limited by a 28 percent shooting mark from the field and were doomed by 17 turnovers.
The Dustdevils will tip off their home season on Nov. 21 at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building with the 5th Annual La Posada Classic. The four-team, two-day event will feature Southwestern Adventist and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin at 3 p.m. TAMIU will face Huston-Tillotson immediately following that game, at 5 p.m.
The second day will see HTU versus UTPB at 5 p.m. and TAMIU will host SWAU at 7 p.m.
