LAREDO, Texas – Demeco Blue's double-double opened Texas A&M International University's 5th Annual La Posada Classic with the Dustdevils first victory of the season, downing Huston-Tillotson, 85-65. The Dustdevils improved to 1-2 in their home opener at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
Blue swarmed to 11 rebounds – eight on defense – and shot 5-for-10 to finish with 10 points against the Rams. Joining Blue in double-digit scoring, senior Vadal Faniel finished with 18 points in just 17 minutes after foul trouble and senior Patrick Carlson with 16 points.
As a team, the Dustdevils entered Friday's game shooting just 37 percent from the field. Against the Rams, TAMIU shot 52 percent to improving to 42 percent on the year.
Dustdevils newcomer Terrell Funches finished with nine points and six boards while Anthony Alston led the game with five assists.
The Dustdevils conclude play in the 5th Annual La Posada Classic on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Southwestern Adventist. Prior to that game, the University of Texas of the Permian Basin will face HTU at 5 p.m. UTPB defeated SWAU 119-66 on Friday.
