GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Texas A&M International University saw each of its starters finish as the team's top five scorers on Saturday in the finale of the Holiday Inn-Airport Thanksgiving Classic against host Colorado Mesa University. Their contributions fell short against the Mavericks in a 69-51 loss.
"We ran into a team on a mission in Colorado Mesa," TAMIU head coach Bryan Weakley said. "They have a lot of seniors and are an experienced team.
"We did some things that we executed really well, but we were unable to sustain a consistent effort. We are still trying to develop and find ourselves."
The Dustdevils shot just 39 percent from the field, led by sharpshooter Patrick Carlson's 6-for-8 performance for 17 points. He fired 5-for-6 from long range.
Montrice McKnight scored nine points with three rebounds, Demeco Blue scored seven points and both Alex Smith and David Horst finished with three points. Six other Dustdevils finished with two points.
TAMIU turned the ball over 19 times to give way to 26 of the Mavericks points. Colorado Mesa shot slightly better than TAMIU, finishing with a 45 percentage from the field and 42 percent from long range.
The Dustdevils will next return to the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building to host Texas A&M-Kingsville on Dec. 3 and Southwestern Adventist on Dec. 6.
