LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas A&M International University opened its Heartland Conference campaign in search of its first road win of the season, facing Lubbock Christian at the Rip Griffin Center on Wednesday night. TAMIU fell, 73-55, despite junior Montrice McKnight and senior Vadal Faniel's double-digit scoring efforts.
McKnight led the Dustdevils with 13 points and five rebounds in just 26 minutes. He contributed three assists and a steal in his Heartland debut. Faniel scored 11 points in 32 minutes with an assist, a block and eight boards.
The Dustdevils suffered from an unfriendly shooting performance, going just 22-for-62 from the field (36 percent) and 24 percent from beyond the 3-point arc (5-for-21).
All five TAMIU starters scored at least four points: David Horst scored eight, Patrick Carlson contributed seven points and Jamie Farrie scored four. Anthony Alston and Terrell Funches both scored five off the bench, and William Wise scored two points.
The Dustdevils will look to rebound with a visit to Oklahoma Panhandle State on Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. before returning to TAMIU to host Newman on Jan. 1.
