Box Score GOODWELL, Okla. – After dropping its Heartland Conference opener, defending champion Texas A&M International University rebounded with an 84-69 victory at Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday. The Dustdevils (6-4, 1-1 Heartland) stretched to the eventual 13-point victory with four players finishing with double-digit point totals.
Senior Vadal Faniel blitzed the Aggies with an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double. Patrick Carlson scored 12 points, Terrell Funches finished with 11 points in just 16 minutes and Anthony Alston scored 10 points and dealt six assists.
Of the nine Dustdevils that appeared, seven scored at least eight points. Marcus Hall scored nine while David Horst, Montrice McKnight and Jamie Farrie each scored eight.
TAMIU's size dominated both sides of the glass, grabbing nearly twice as many rebounds (43-23) as the hosts. The Dustdevils held the Aggies to just 40 percent shooting from the field and 24 percent from beyond the 3-point arc while forcing 16 turnovers – including nine steals.
The Dustdevils open conference play at home with a hosting of Newman on Jan. 1 at the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
