LAREDO, Texas – After a change of schedule resulted in a four seven-inning game series between Arlington Baptist and Texas A&M International , the teams combined to score 47 runs as they split with two wins apiece. The Dustdevils improved to 12-17 (4-8 Heartland Conference) with wins in games two and four and losses in games 1 and three.

The Dustdevils will next host Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday at Uni-Trade Stadium at 4 p.m. The game will serve as the opener of a doubleheader with the third game of Laredo's Mexican Baseball Spring Classic taking place at 7:30 p.m. between Tigres de Quintana Roo and Rojas de Aguilas de Veracruz.

GAME 1: Arlington Baptist 8, TAMIU 3 (7 Innings)

A trio of errors helped the Patriots break a scoreless tie with a six-run fourth inning and a two-run fifth. TAMIU did it's best to mount a comeback – scoring a pair in the fourth and a single run in the sixth – but it wasn't enough to give starting pitcher Jeremy Gonzalez (2-3) a victory on the mound.

Gonzalez pitched three complete innings with a strike out, a walk and six runs off six hits allowed. Ryan Williams pitched four innings of relief, allowing five hits and two runs – just one earned – with a strike out and two walks.

Armando Garza took the win for the Patriots, allowing just three hits: one apiece to Nathan Halas (1-for-4), Andrew Arteaga (1-for-3) and Jake Cardoza (1-for-2). Cardoza, Gordie Taggart and Alex McKeon each scored runs.

McKeon walked twice, while Arteaga and Arturo Castro Jr. each drew one and Taggart illustrated plate patience with three walks. Cardoza reached when he was hit by a pitch. Mauricio Granados plated the team's only RBI with a sacrifice groundout in the fourth inning – scoring Taggart.

GAME 2: TAMIU 17, Arlington Baptist 1 (7 Innings)

The Dustdevils hung six runs on the scoreboard in the first inning and never looked back en route to the Abdel Rivera (3-3) victory. Rivera pitched five innings with just 65 pitches as he painted the image of dominance with just two hits allowed with six strike outs. He walked just one before allowing Mark Munoz and Nick Perales to pitch an inning apiece with two strike outs and just a run allowed between them.

TAMIU scored at least a run in each inning, with six in the first, one apiece in the second and third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth and four final runs in the sixth inning. The Patriots tallied their only run in the last inning.

Arteaga began the first inning with a one-out walk, advancing to second on a wild pitch. It didn't take long for the Dustdevils to take the early 2-0 lead; the next batter, McKeon, lifted a high home run over the left field fence. Taggart immediately walked and took second on a pitcher's balk before Connor Belvin singled to right-center field, with Taggart scoring on an error. Cardoza walked to put runners on first and second base for Castro to knock a RBI double. Danny Benavides grounded into a fielder's choice and took second on the play at the plate that retired Cardoza. Benavides and Castro scored the first's final runs on a Michael Colorado retiring.

The Dustdevils plated a run in the second after Halas led off with a double down the right field line. Arteaga plated him with a single. They scored another run in the third when Jake Cardoza led off with a walk, eventually taking third base on a wild pickoff misplay. Colorado roped a RBI double to right field before being stranded at second.

In the fourth inning, the Dustdevils again led off with a walk, this time by Arteaga. After two quick outs, Belvin and Cardoza strung out back-to-back singles, with Arteaga crossing the plate. Castro belted a two-RBI triple off the center field fence. Benavides then doubled to score Castro, finding himself stranded as the inning ended when Colorado – the next batter – flied out.

The Dustdevils scored a run on two hits in the fifth, beginning with a Halas lead-off single and an advancing to second on a balk. Halas took third to put runners on the corner when Arteaga singled, and Halas scored on a Danny Benavides fielder's choice.

Jonathan LaFrenz began the sixth with a one-out single and a balk put him at second. Colorado singled to put runners on first and second with two outs for Arteaga, who sent a two-RBI double to center field. Daniel Cruz mimicked him with a RBI double of his own to right field before scoring on a Robert Quintanilla single after a Granados walk. Ryan Jozwiak sent a RBI single of his own to left field before the inning ended.

GAME 3: Arlington Baptist 7, TAMIU 1 (7 Innings)

The Patriots again took advantage of four Dustdevil errors with three runs apiece in the second and third innings and a final run in the seventh. TAMIU scored just one run in the fourth inning.

TAMIU starting pitcher Marty Bigham suffered the loss while allowing eight hits and six runs – just three earned – in five innings of work with three strike outs and a walk. Mark Munoz pitched two innings of relief with a strike out, no walks, four hits allowed and one run allowed. Both Bigham and Munoz combined to pitch 138 strikes and just 92 balls.

TAMIU registered just six hits, led by a pair of hits by Castro (2-for-2, RBI) and Granados (2-for-2, R). Arteaga (1-for-3) and Taggart (1-for-3) each reached with one hit each while Halas, Arteaga and Castro each drew walks. Arteaga and Granados both belted doubles.

GAME 4: TAMIU 7, Arlington Baptist 3 (7 Innings)

TAMIU took a one-run lead in the first inning, but the Patriots tied the game at 1 in the third inning. The Dustdevils retook the lead with another run in the fourth and a massive five insurance runs in the fifth. Those five runs were even more impactful after ABC scored two in the top half of the fifth inning.

The win went to TAMIU reliever Baylr Bickerton (3-2), who pitched just 2/3 of an inning with two hits and a run allowed. He came in for starter Clay Phillips, who went 4 2/3 innings with two strike outs, a walk, four hits allowed and two runs allowed. Armando Manrrique pitched the final two innings with a strike out and just one hit allowed.

TAMIU led off the game with a Halas single to center field before he was moved over off a Castro sacrifice. Halas took third on an Arteaga groundout and later scored when McKeon knocked an infield single.

The Patriots tied the game and the score held until the bottom of the fourth when Taggart and Cardoza smacked a pair of back-to-back one-out singles. Granados reached on a fielder's choice that retired Cardoza at second. An error at the plate scored Taggart and put Granados at second before Benavides and Colorado walked. They were stranded on a subsequent strike out.

ABC plated two runs to take a short-lived lead in the fifth inning. TAMIU answered as Castro led off a five-run inning by being hit by a pitch. Ryan Jozwiak later tried to sacrifice himself with a bunt, but he legged it into an infield hit. An identical scenario put McKeon on first and loaded the bases before Cardoza muscled a RBI single to left. Granados then flexed a triple to deep center field, plating Cardoza, McKeon and Jozwiak. Granados then scored on a Benavides ground out, stretching the Dustdevils to their winning mark.
