ADA, Okla. – Texas A&M International concluded play in the East Central/SE Oklahoma Tournament on Saturday with back-to-back games against East Central University and Washburn University, respectively. The Dustdevils fell in both with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 25-20) loss to East Central and a 3-0 (25-14. 25-13, 25-11) loss to Washburn.
The Dustdevils (0-7, 0-3 Heartland) are in the midst of a stretch of seven consecutive road games – having already completed five. A pair of away games at St. Mary's – in Heartland Conference play – at 11 a.m. and a neutral-site non-conference game against Southern Arkansas – hosted by St. Mary's – at 1 p.m. will close the road trip on Sept. 20. The Dustdevils will return home to the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building on Sept. 23 to host Texas A&M-Kingsville at 7 p.m.
East Central 3, TAMIU 1 (25-22, 25-17, 18-25, 25-20)
Senior hitter Alex Ciszek led the Dustdevils offense with 16 kills – nearly doubling the next closest hitter's total – with 19 points as the Dustdevils won their first set since opening the season with a pair of winnings on Sept. 4. Miaje Hubbard had nine kills with 9.5 points, Samantha Gonzalez had seven kills and nine points, and Tasmin Apple had seven kills with 8.5 points.
Lizzie Prieto claimed 29 of the Dustdevils 38 total assists, while also racking up three kills and four points.
Washburn 3, TAMIU 0 (25-14. 25-13, 25-11)
The Dustdevils saw Prieto score all but one of their 20 assists in the second match as Hubbard's seven kills led the offense. Ciszek followed with six kills while fellow senior Sophia Quinones dug out 15 of the Dustdevils' total 38 defended balls.
