WICHITA FALLS, Texas – An important South Central Regional match between the Heartland Conference's Texas A&M International University and the Lone Star Conference's Midwestern State saw a trio of second-half strikes settle the score on Friday. The Dustdevils fell victim to three goals in 20 minutes in the eventual 3-0 loss.
Midwestern scored its first goal in the 50th minute and its final in the 69th minute, finishing with 18 shots and nine on target. TAMIU goalkeeper Salomon Moctezume completed a climactic nine saves. TAMIU registered nine shots – led by two apiece by Robert Dominguez and Angel Robles – with just four falling on frame.
The physical match saw 32 fouls called, including eight cautionary yellow cards. TAMIU received four and the host Mustangs also received four.
The Dustdevils will return to action with a neutral-site showdown against Ouachita Baptist in Frisco, Texas, on Sept. 28 at 3 p.m. TAMIU defeated Ouachita Baptist 3-1 on Sept. 5.
