TAMIU Falls to No. 23 St. Edward's

LAREDO, Texas – The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils (8-7, 3-4 Heartland Conference) fell to No. 23 St. Edward's University Hilltoppers (14-1, 6-1 Heartland) 55-62 Thursday evening at the TAMIU Kinesiology Convocation Building.

The first half was quite a battle, with each team having their largest lead of four points. St. Edward's had their largest lead with six minutes left on the clock, while TAMIU led by four with two minutes left on the clock. The Dustdevils dominated with a 46.2 field goal percentage, and a 50 percentage from the three-point range. Senior Vadal Faniel and senior William Wise crushed the first half with nine and eight points, respectively.

Going into the second half the Dustdevils led by one point (29-28), from where the Hilltoppers shortly took their lead just 30 seconds into the second half. TAMIU did not see another lead in the game until halfway through the second half off a free throw by senior Jamie Farrie. Once again, St. Edward's would take the lead and not give TAMIU the chance to come close as they started leading with a 7-9 point margin with four minutes left in the game. The Hilltoppers eventually won by seven (55-62).

TAMIU was led by Faniel who generated a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. He also added an assist and a steal. Behind him was senior Farrie with 10 points, junior Anthony Alston with nine points, and Wise with eight. Alston placed second on the team with seven total rebounds. Junior David Horst led the team in steals with two.

Next up, TAMIU will take on University of Texas- Permian Basin (10-5, 5-2 Heartland) at the TAMIU KCB Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
