TAMIU Falls To Newman

Wichita, KS - A strong finish lifted Newman University to a 91-79 Heartland Conference win over Texas A&M International on Thursday night at Fugate Gym on the NU campus. 
 
TAMIU (9-10, 4-7 Heartland) took its biggest lead of the night at 46-41 on two free throws by Anthony Alston at the 17:41 mark of the second half.  The lead exchanged several times over the next 15 minutes.
 
Jamie Farrie cut the Newman (9-8, 5-6 Heartland) lead to 75-71 on a layup at the 2:55 mark.  The Jets would then go on a 7-0 run over the next 90 seconds to take a 82-71 lead and TAMIU would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
 
Patrick Carlson made six of eight 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 20 points for the Dustdevils.  Terrell Funches finished with 12 points and Anthony Alston contributed 10 points and a team-high three steals.
 
TAMIU will return to action on Saturday afternoon at Oklahoma Christian.  Tip-off at the Eagles' Nest on the OC campus is scheduled for 3 p.m.
