TAMIU Dominates Oklahoma Christian, 81-60

Oklahoma City, OK – The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils improve to .500 (10-10, 5-7 Heartland) on the season, after dominating the Oklahoma Christian University Eagles (3-15, 1-11 Heartland) Saturday afternoon at the Eagles Nest.

Junior Terrell Funches recorded his career-high 20 points against the Eagles. Funches went 8-10 (80%) from the field, and 4-5 (80%) from the 3-point range. Funches also added in three rebounds, two assists, and two steals on the afternoon.

"The dedication and inspiration from both players and coaches helped us play one of our best games of the year. I also want to give credit to my teammates and coaches for having trust in me and giving me the confidence to go out there and play ball," stated Funches.

Five out of the eight Dustdevil players scored double-digits throughout the game. Junior Montrice McKnight scored 12 points, senior Vadal Faniel scored 11 points, and senior Jamie Farrie and senior Curtis Trotter added in 10 each. Senior Patrick Carlson added in nine points for the Dustdevils.

Faniel had seven rebounds. Farrie had four rebounds and added in four assists, two blocks, and two steals. McKnight and Carlson also had four rebounds each.

TAMIU and OC started the game off with a fight. The lead changed five times, until the Dustdevils ran away with the score with 16:53 in the first half from a layup by Farrie. The Dustdevils had a 13 point gain going into the second half, and finished the game with a 21 point lead, winning 81-60.

The Dustdevils shot an outstanding 60.7 percent from the field, and 50 percent from the 3-point range. The Eagles could not compare, as their percentages were 40.9 and 28.6, respectively. TAMIU scored 30 points in the paint, and 30 points from behind the 3-point arc.

The Dustdevils also had the opportunity to score 14 points off Eagle turnovers, and 9 second chance points. TAMIU had its largest lead of 24 in the second half.

The Dustdevils' next game will be at TAMIU's Spirit Night on Thursday, February 6 at the TAMIU Kinesiology Convocation Building. They will face the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith whose record is 12-8, 8-4 Heartland.
