ODESSA, Texas (October 1, 2015) -- The Dustdevils clinched their first Heartland Conference victory, 3-2, in an exciting overtime match against Texas - Permian Basin on Thursday night. TAMIU now holds a record of 3-5 overall, and 1-0 in Heartland Conference play.

TAMIU looked to capitalize in the first Conference match-up, as they had defeated UTPB in their home opener 2-0 on September 3rd. The scoring started early, with UTPB making a statement in the 9th minute. TAMIU served a rebuttal in the 21st minute, when Junior Tayeb Ahmadi bicycle-kicked his shot into the left side of the net. Ahmadi was assisted by Freshman Josiah Benjamin on the goal. The score remained 1-1 at half.

In the second half, a battle of grit held the game at a draw until the 73rd minute. UTPB connected on a free kick to put them up 1-2. But, Senior Ryan Hodgson had other plans. With less than three minutes to go, he netted TAMIU's second goal in the 87th minute off of the cross bar.

A thrilling match to the last minute, including extra time to play, was decided in favor of TAMIU in the 93rd minute. Senior Ryan Hodgson continued his momentum to tally his second of the night, putting TAMIU ahead 3-2 for their first Conference victory.
