AUSTIN, Texas (October 29, 2015) -- The Texas A&M International Men's Soccer team was held scoreless against #14 St. Edward's on Thursday afternoon. TAMIU moves to 5-10-1 on the season, and 3-3-1 in conference, while St. Edward's clinched the Heartland Conference title in the Dustdevils loss.
Through the first 74 minutes of play, TAMIU's defense held the power of the #14Â Hilltoppers scoreless. In the 75th minute, St. Edward's put up the first goal of the contest on a one-timer from a corner kick at six yards out. Continuing with this momentum, the Hilltoppers netted a second goal in the 79th minute. The 0-2 score held for the final after the completion of 90 minutes.
The Dustdevils put up 3 total shots through the 90 minutes, while TAMIU's Freshman Goalkeeper Antonio Romero saw 14 shots come his way. Five of the 14 were directly on net. The Dustdevils defense was also up against 10 total Hilltopper corner kick attempts, but only saw one themselves.
Up next, TAMIU will compete in their last regular season match on the road in Dallas, Texas against Dallas Baptist on Saturday, October 31st. Dallas Baptist currently sits one place below the Dustdevils in Heartland Conference standings. A Halloween victory for TAMIU over the Patriots will allow them for a bid into the 2015 Heartland Conference tournament. A loss could be spooky for the Dustdevils, as it will jeopardize that post-season opportunity.
The Heartland Conference Men's Soccer standings can be seen below. Rogers State is indicated by a star to represent their provisional school status, noting that they will be unable to participate the in the playoff tournament.
