Dustdevils drop 3-set match against Jets

LAREDO, Texas (November 12, 2015) -- The Texas A&M International Volleyball squad (9-12 overall, 8-7 HC) was handed a 0-3 loss by their Heartland Conference foe, Newman (24-8 overall, 12-3 HC), on Thursday night at the TAMIU KCB (16-25, 12-25, 23-25). The Jets' win over the Dustdevils has mathematically eliminated TAMIU from post-season tournament play.

TAMIU felt the pressure of the second place conference contenders early on in the first and second sets. The Jets limited the offensive options for TAMIU, while hammering down on the Dustdevils defense. At one point, Newman held a 14 point lead over the Dustdevils in set two that was unable to be made up for.

After a break in the locker room, TAMIU came back to the court with an attempt to combat the sweep. The Dustdevils efforts fell short in the 23-25 loss, as they presented their third-lowest hitting percentage during the contest, at .080 as a team.

In the loss, the Dustdevils still managed to accumulate more digs (58) and assists (31) than then Jets (47, 29). Leading the team, Senior Lizzie Prieto tallied 17 assists in total.

Up next, TAMIU Volleyball will conclude their 2015 season at home against the conference's top squad, Arkansas Fort Smith. The final action of the season will take place on Saturday, November 14 at 12pm in the TAMIU KCB.
