TAMIU Volleyball rematches Kingsville, comes out on top 3-1

Kingsville, Texas (November 3, 2015) -- The TAMIU Volleyball team (8-11, 7-6 HC) traveled east to Kingsville, Texas for a rematch against their non-conference foe Texas A&M-Kingsville (18-11, 7-5 LSC) on Tuesday night. The Dustdevils, with a strong start, would come out with the redemption win, 3-1. (25-23, 25-22, 17-25, 26-24)

In set one, the Dustdevils made a statement run to capture the 25-23 win. The Javelinas started quick on the scoreboard, but TAMIU answered by capturing 4 straight points to build their first lead of the game with a 8-7 score. The TAMIU lead would not be lost for the rest of the match, allowing the Dustdevils to continue on for the victory.

During set two, the scoring volleyed between the Dustdevils and Javelinas, each sharing tied scores multiple times in early play. TAMIU overcame a 5-9 deficit by generating 7 unanswered points to gain the lead. After a 14-14 score, the Dustdevils regained their momentum to rally for a 25-22 win.

After the intermission, the Dustdevils saw the true colors of the Javelinas. Kingsville shut down TAMIU's offense (who hit -.062), and forced their own offensive power over the Dustdevils defense. The Javelinas would take set three with a score of 17-25.

In the fourth set, TAMIU came back to the court, this time, ready to leave the Javelinas in the dust. After a 16-15 score and a Javelina time out, the score flipped back-and-forth once again between the teams. The Dustdevils pushed the Javelinas into extra time, but not for long. TAMIU would take the win 26-24, sealing the match victory 3-1 in sets.

Head Coach Susie Jangada praised her team's efforts by saying "We're really proud of the girls for the fight that came out of them tonight. They did a great job of not giving up and didn't let their emotions take over during the match. We are happy with picking up the road win before heading into our last two weekends of conference play for a strong finish."

Assistant Coach Ben Sabin also commented on the win by saying, "Our chemistry and heart amongst each other really pushed us through the adversity. We set out before the game to prove that we could establish our culture of how we want to play, and we did a great job of executing that tonight."

Junior Paula Mrowczynska lead TAMIU in kills with 13 over the 4 set match. Senior Lizzie Prieto tallied 31 assists.

Looking forward, the Dustdevils will remain at home for the final 3 contests of the 2015 season, all of which are Heartland Conference matches. Next up, St. Mary's will visit TAMIU for a Saturday matinee on Saturday, November 7 at 12pm. During this contest, the Dustdevils will recognize and thank their seniors (Madison Morris and Lizzie Prieto) for their contributions to the TAMIU Volleyball program.
