LAREDO, Texas (December 19, 2015) -- The Texas A&M International Men's Basketball team earned a 89-60 victory over Heartland Conference foe Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday afternoon. The win extends the Dustdevils undefeated conference record (2-0) and puts them at 7-3 overall.
The Dustdevils dominated through all forty minutes of play, grasping their lead early in the first half. In the second half, TAMIU more than doubled the scoring efforts of the Aggies by putting up 48 points, versus OPSU's 23.
Led by Junior Forward
Jordan VanDeKop with a 18-point and 7-rebound performance, the Dustdevils had four players that produced double-digit points in Saturday's victory. The full-team effort included
Greg Mason(15 pts),
Arkeem Joseph (14 pts) and
Deonnte Breedlove (12 points). Other notable producers were
Marcus Hall (9pts) and
Arthur Santanna (team-leading 7 assists, along with 6 rebounds, and 5 pts).
Head Coach Bryan Weakley commented on the win by saying, "This game tonight was the tale of two halves. We allowed OPSU's pressure to bother us the first half. They did a good job not letting us have offensive rhythm. We calmed down in the second half and played much better on both ends of the floor."
Weakley continued by adding, "I was really proud especially of
Marcus Hall and
Greg Mason's performances. They really gave us a much needed boost."
Up next, the Dustdevils will enjoy a holiday break. TAMIU will return to action at Oklahoma Christian on December 31st.
