TAMIU Softball Goes 2-0 on First Day of Rattler Invitational

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils have a great start at the Rattler Invitational Friday afternoon, going 2-0 on the afternoon against the Tarleton State TexAnns and Texas A&M International University-Commerce Lions.

GAME ONE – Texas A&M International 3, Tarleton State 0
The Dustdevils took on Tarleton State Friday at noon, taking the lead and win in the 6th inning, as sophomore Brittany Mussett homered to left center, scoring herself, sophomore Brenda Parnin, and junior Chelsea Capello.

The Dustdevils and TexAnns went unscored until that 6th inning. Tarleton State had two more innings to fight back and try to steal the win, but TAMIU's pitching and defense did not allow for any TexAnns runs.

TAMIU's senior Sarah Johnson (2-1) took the win on the afternoon. Johnson pitched all seven innings, and only allowed four hits and three walks. Johnson struck out Tarleton State batters Friday afternoon.

Tarleton State's pitching only allowed six Dustdevil hits, which came from sophomore Krissy Sardelich, Capello, B. Parnin, Mussett, senior Mariena Gallardo, and freshman Alyssa Acuna. B. Parnin had one double on the afternoon, and Mussett had her first home run of the season, which also happened to be the game winner.

GAME TWO- Texas A&M International 4, Texas A&M Commerce 1

After falling 0-2 in a doubleheader against the Lions this past Tuesday afternoon, the Texas A&M International Dustdevils put the Lions to the test and came back to grab their first win of the season against the TAMU-Commerce Lions.

The Dustdevils had an early start, as they scored all four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Sophomore Krissy Sardelich got on base on balls. Following Sardelich, junior Chelsea Capello singled. Next up, sophomore Brenda Parnin came up to bat, hitting a single to center field, putting the Dustdevils up on the scoreboard, as she recorded an RBI. Mussett came to the plate and hit another RBI single. Senior Mariena Gallardo then came up to the plate and bunted, good for an RBI. Next up, sophomore Ashley Hight singled, scoring another runner, to give the Dustdevils their four runs, which won the game.

The Lions thought they had a chance to come back as they scored one run in the
4th inning, but failed to match TAMIU's four runs.

Gallardo went 2-3 from the plate and recording one RBI. Parnin, Mussett, and Hight all went 1-3 from the plate.

TAMIU's pitcher, Gallardo (2-3), recorded her second win of the season as she pitched all seven innings of the game. Gallardo only allowed five hits and two walks, while striking out six.

Tomorrow the Dustdevils will play their second day of the Rattler Invitational, as they will face the University of Central Oklahoma and Texas Woman's University.
