TAMIU and Tarleton State Split Saturday Afternoon

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils (6-7) and the Tarleton State University Texans (6-4) split on day two of their four-game series on Saturday afternoon.

GAME ONE: Texas A&M International 3, Tarleton State 1
The Dustdevils took game one as they scored three runs on 11 hits, as senior Jeremy Gonzalez (2-1) pitched an excellent game, holding the Texans to only two hits and one run. Gonzalez pitched all seven innings for the Dustdevils and struck out six.

The Dustdevils scored their first run in the 2nd inning, as sophomore Alex Cabezas singled up the middle, scoring sophomore Connor Belvin at the plate.

TAMIU scored again in the 4th inning as junior Jeffrey Morgan singled up the middle and scored Belvin for the second run of the game.

In the top of the 7th, TAMIU scored their final third run as junior Cody Perez singled to left field, and scored junior Michael Colorado home.

Perez went a superb 1.000 (4-4) in game one, as did Morgan (2-2). Belvin went 2-3 on the afternoon with a double, scoring two out of the three TAMIU runs.

GAME TWO: Texas A&M International 1, Tarleton State 6
The second game of the afternoon went a little different than TAMIU had expected after defeating the Texans in game one. Despite TAMIU's many opportunities to score, Tarleton State utilized their chances to the max and scored six runs and seven hits on four TAMIU errors.

The Dustdevils had ten hits on the afternoon (three more than the Texans), but were not able to pull through when needed as they left a total of nine players on base throughout the game.

TAMIU was only able to score one run in the first inning as Tarleton State's pitcher walked sophomore Connor Belvin, and forced senior Andrew Arteaga to put one run on the board.

Tarleton State was able to score two runs in the bottom of the 1st, 4th, and 5th, holding the Dustdevils to their sole run throughout the remainder of the game.

Junior Reynaldo Adames led the team in hits, going 3-5 on the afternoon. Sophomore Daniel Cruz and junior Jeffrey Morgan both went 2-4 on the afternoon. Junior Cody Perez went 1-4 with a double against the Texans.

Senior Garrett Taggart recorded his first loss of the season, pitching four full innings for the Dustdevils, and allowing the six out of the seven Texan hits.

Tomorrow, the Dustdevils will face Tarleton State once again, and then head home for a game at Uni-Trade Stadium Tuesday afternoon against the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Javelinas at 4:00 p.m.
