DALLAS, Texas – A trio of Texas A&M International University Dustdevils scored in double-digits Saturday afternoon to achieve a 66-60 win over the Dallas Baptist University Patriots.

Senior Vadal Faniel, junior Terrell Funches, and junior Anthony Alston all reached double digits in total points against the Patriots. Faniel scored a team-high 18 points, while coming one short of a double-double with nine rebounds. Faniel also had two assists, and one block on the afternoon.

Funches and Alston scored 15 and 12 points, respectively. Funches added in five rebounds and two steals, while going 5-7 (71.4%) from the field. Alston recorded two rebounds and three assists for the Dustdevils.

Right behind the trio of double-digit scorers, was senior Curtis Trotter with nine points for TAMIU. Sophomore Marcus Hall recorded a team-high five steals for the Dustdevils, and scoring six points.

As a team, TAMIU shot 43.9 percent from the field, and 16.7 percent from the 3-point range. The Dustdevils shot an outstanding 87.5 percent as a team from the free-throw line (28-32), which helped TAMIU in the win over the Patriots.

DBU had its largest lead on the Dustdevils in the first half of 12 with 15 minutes left on the clock. TAMIU came back from the 12 point deficit with 6:22 left on the clock in the first, with a layup from Alston. The Dustdevils and Patriots would then battle for the remainder of the first half, going into the second half down by two.

In the second half, TAMIU had its largest lead of six, with 7:13 to go from a layup by Trotter. They once again would be up with six minutes to go, from free throws by Alston. The score tied up three times in the last four minutes of play, where TAMIU then took the final lead with 43 seconds on the clock. DBU had no choice but to foul, and TAMIU then pulled through with a perfect six consecutive free throws by Faniel, Alston, and Funches to take the win, with a score of 66-60.
