TAMIU Drops First Road Game Against ASU

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils drop their first road game of the year against the Angelo State University Rams, falling to .500 on the season.

The Dustdevils struggled with the bats at the beginning of the game, as the Rams only allowed four TAMIU hits in the first six innings of play. It wasn't until the eighth inning that TAMIU decided to go with the bats. A series of six singles, and one walk by the Dustdevils made the score 6-9 at the top of the 8th.

Senior Eric Moritz started out with a single to centerfield. Following Moritz, was senior Jake Cardoza with a single to shortstop, advancing Moritz to second. Junior Cody Perez followed with a single to the right side, recording TAMIU's first RBI on the day. Junior Jeffrey Morgan walked following a Ram pitching change. From there, sophomore Alex Cabezas, senior Andrew Arteaga, and sophomore Daniel Cruz went with the bats to get the six Dustdevil runs.

After a load of Dustdevil runs, the Rams answered back with two more runs, making the score 12-6. TAMIU would have one last shot in the 9th inning, but ended the game with a foul out, line drive, and a strikeout.

Cruz went 2-4 on the day with the game high two RBI's. Cabezas also added in two RBI's and went 1-2 on the day for the Dustdevils. Perez went .500 against the Rams, averaging a .364 batting average on the season.

TAMIU's senior Jared Curnel, freshman Justin Diaz, and sophomore Robert Quintanilla all pitched for the Dustdevils Friday afternoon. Curnel recorded the loss, making his record 0-1 on the season.

Tomorrow the Dustdevils will continue their 3-game series against the Rams, with a doubleheader starting off at 1:00 p.m. in San Angelo, Texas.
