TAMIU Baseball Completes ASU Series Saturday Afternoon

SAN ANGELO, Texas - On Saturday afternoon, the Texas A&M International University Dustdevils (2-4) completed their 3-game series against the Angelo State University Rams (4-1) at Foster Field in San Angelo, Texas.

 
GAME 2 – The Dustdevils started the game out solid, scoring four runs on the Rams at the top of the 1st inning. Junior Jeffrey Morgan led off the game with a single to left field. Following Morgan, junior Reynaldo Adames singled to centerfield. Senior Andrew Arteaga then took matters in to his hand, hitting an RBI double to left field, scoring Morgan. Another run scored on an error by the Ram's second baseman. Then hits from junior Nathan Halas, sophomore Aaron Navarro, and senior Eric Moritz ran the runs up to four.
 
ASU answered with one run in the bottom of the 1st, and then had multiple hitting opportunities in the 2nd and 3rd innings. In the 2nd, ASU scored three runs, on two hits. In the 3rd inning, the Rams forced three runs, one hit, on two TAMIU errors. TAMIU's starting pitcher, senior Jeremy Gonzalez (1-1) was dismissed in the middle of the 3rd inning, where senior Dylan Allen came in to close the 3rd inning.
 
The Rams were able to score one more run in the 4th, and another in the 5th to make the score 9-4 Rams.
 
TAMIU needed six runs in the 7th inning in order to tie the game. With bats from Adames, Arteaga, sophomore Daniel Cruz, junior Michael Colorado, sophomore Erasmo Gonzalez Jr., TAMIU was able to score four runs on five hits, falling two runs short.
 
TAMIU's Adames went 3-5, and scored two of the Dustdevils' runs. Arteaga and Moritz both went 2-4 with one RBI each. Cruz and E. Gonzalez Jr. each had the game-high RBI with two. Colorado went 1.000 in game two of the ASU series.

 
GAME 3 – The Dustdevils fell to ASU in their final game of their 3-game series, as TAMIU struggled to hit and score runs, only able to score their only three runs in the 3rd inning.
 
ASU scored a total of 15 runs, on 17 hits and one TAMIU error. TAMIU was only able to score three runs, on three hits with no Ram errors.
 
TAMIU's pitching struggled as senior Armando Manrrique (0-1) started the game, pitching the first two innings and giving up seven hits, and nine runs. Junior Sammy Alvarado came in from the bullpen in the 3rd inning, to allow six runs on seven hits. Junior Daniel Edmondo closed out the game pitching the 5th and 6th inning, only allowing three hits, and no runs.
 
On the offensive end, Morgan, Arteaga, and junior Cody Perez were the only Dustdevils who were able to hit against the Ram's pitching squad. Perez starts his season out with the third-highest batting average on the team with .400. M. Colorado and Cardoza are in the lead with .500 and .455, respectively.
 
Next up the Dustdevils will face the Our Lady of the Lake Saints in San Antonio Friday afternoon for a doubleheader, and be back in Laredo on Saturday with another doubleheader against the Saints.
