Dustdevils Open Tournament In San Angelo at the George McCorkle Challenge

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils opened up day one of the Angelo State University George McCorkle Challenge in San Angelo, Texas Friday morning.

GAME 1 – TAMIU faced Heartland Conference opponent, St. Edward's University Hilltoppers, in a non-conference game to open up the ASU tournament, only to fall short one run, with a final score of 3-4.

The Dustdevils started out the game with a 1-0 start off of an RBI single from senior Mariena Gallardo, scoring sophomore Krissy Saredelich. Though, the Hilltoppers came out strong in the 3rd inning, scoring three runs to lead TAMIU by two.

The Dustdevils tried to catch up with St. Edward's, scoring one run in the 6th and one run in the 7th, only to fall short by one run following the 7th.

Saredlich went 2-4 against St. Edward's, scoring two out of the three TAMIU runs. Junior Chelsea Capello also went 2-4 against the Hilltoppers and recorded one RBI.

Senior Sarah Johnson pitched all seven innings for the Dustdevils, and recorded her first loss of the season.

GAME 2 – The TAMIU Dustdevils faced the host team ASU in their second game of the day on Friday afternoon, as the ASU Rambelles powered through and took the win with a 2-10 score.

TAMIU and ASU each had one run apiece to start the first inning off. Sardelich had the first run for the Dustdevils in this game.

The ASU Rambelles dominated the 2nd inning, and scored a total of six runs on the Dustdevils, making the score 7-1 ASU.

TAMIU's Brenda Parnin recorded the only RBI against the Rambelles as she scored sophomore Samantha Gutierrez for another run in the 3rd inning, making the score 7-2 ASU.

Going into the 5th inning, the Rambelles only needed three more runs to honor the Mercy rule. ASU's Brooke Mangold got on base, and scored on a homerun by ASU's Kenedy Urbany. Shortly after, one more run was scored by the Rambelles, to close the game with a final score of 10-2 ASU.

Capello and B. Parnin were the only ones with Dustdevil hits against the ASU pitcher, Brandy Martlett. Gallardo recorded her second loss of the season.
