Dustdevils Split on Day Two of the ASU George McCorkle Challenge

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils split on day two of the Angelo State University George McCorkle Challenge, dropping to No. 11 ASU 1-5, and defeating the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers 6-3.

TAMIU vs. ASU – TAMIU and ASU faced each other for the second time this week Saturday afternoon at Mayer Field in San Angelo, Texas.

After losing 2-10 last night against the Rambelles, TAMIU fought hard for redemption. TAMIU made their move in the 1st inning in order to score one run on two hits.

TAMIU's sophomore Krissy Sardelich reached first on a walk. Following Sardelich, junior Chelsea Capello bunted to advance Sardelich to second, and then to third on a wild pitch, putting TAMIU in scoring position. Though, Sardelich got out at home off of a hit to the pitcher. TAMIU kept getting players on base, and was able to get their first run on senior Mariena Gallardo's RBI single to left field. Little did TAMIU know, that would be their only run for the remainder of the game.

The No. 11 Rambelles went at it with the bats, increasing their lead to four over the duration of the game. TAMIU's freshman Delainy Thompson pitched the entire six innings, making it her second loss on the season.

Capello, Gallardo, and designated player Jessica Rivera were the only three Dustdevils to get hits off of ASU's pitcher, Kenedy Urbany.

TAMIU vs. Colorado School of Mines – TAMIU would seek their first win of the season against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers (3-1), closing the deal with a 6-3 win.

The first inning was a boost and decision factor in TAMIU's win over the Orediggers. The Dustdevils were able to score five runs, on three hits in the first inning. Sardelich started out the game with a single to left field. Sardelich scored on a walk by the Orediggers' pitcher after the bases were loaded early in the 1st. TAMIU's sophomore Brenda Parnin then was able to score on a wild pitch. Shortly after, sophomore Anna Parnin got up to bat and hit a 3-RBI slamming homerun over right field.

The Orediggers tried to come back from the five run lead by scoring one run in the bottom of the 1st.

TAMIU was able to score one more run in the top of the 5th, as freshman Acacia Salinas scored as Colorado School of Mines pitcher walked freshman Alyssa Soneff.

The Orediggers struggled to score runs throughout the remainder of the game, only able to score one more in the 5th and 7th innings.

The Dustdevils played great defense, and TAMIU's pitcher Sarah Johnson (1-1) went the whole length of the game, only allowing seven hits three runs on the afternoon.

Sardelich went 2-4 with one run against the Orediggers. Sardelich leads the team in batting average with .353. A. Parnin went 1-4 against the Orediggers and recorded the Dustdevils' first home run of the season.

Tomorrow the Dustdevils will finish up the last day at the ASU George McCorkle Classic, as they will face Colorado School of Mines again at 11:45 a.m. and will face No. 11 ASU for the third time this weekend at 2:00 p.m.
