TAMIU Picks Up Two Wins Against Oklahoma Christian

Laredo, Texas – The Texas A&M International Dustdevils (14-14, 7-1 Heartland) racked up two wins against Heartland Conference opponent, the Oklahoma Christian Eagles (8-8, 0-5 Heartland), Thursday afternoon in a doubleheader at Dustdevil Field.

GAME ONE: Texas A&M International 2, Oklahoma Christian 0

The Texas A&M International Dustdevils and the Oklahoma Christian Eagles went scoreless in the first 5 ½ innings, until TAMIU's sophomore shortstop,
Brenda Parnin, slammed one over the left field wall in the bottom of the 6th, scoring herself and sophomore Krissy Sardelich to take the 2-0 lead.

The Dustdevils shut the Eagles out in the top of the 7th inning to take the first win of the Heartland Conference 3-game series. Senior
Mariena Gallardo (5-4) shutout OC this afternoon and notched the win for the Dustdevils on the mound. Gallardo threw a complete game, walking two, and striking out three.

In addition to Parnin's homerun, Gallardo recorded a double, and Sardelich and freshman
Alyssa Soneff hit singles in game one of the afternoon.

Junior
Chelsea Capello recorded a sacrifice hit and a stolen base for the Dustdevils.

GAME TWO: Texas A&M International 7, Oklahoma Christian 5

The second game was a different story, as both teams went with the bats, and got up on the scoreboard early on.

The Eagles scored one run each in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd innings, while TAMIU scored three in the bottom of the 1st - making it a tie game at the end of the 3rd.

In the bottom of the 4th TAMIU's junior
Jessica Rivera singled to left field for an RBI, scoring sophomore Krissy Sardelich at the plate to take the 4-3 lead.

The bottom of the 5th was a big inning for the Dustdevils, as they increased their lead to four (7-3). Sophomore
Brenda Parnin started out the inning with a single up the middle. Next up, sophomore Brittany Mussett slammed a homerun over the center field wall, scoring herself and Parnin. Next up, senior Mariena Gallardo got on base from a single through the left side, and shortly advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Alyssa Soneff. Shortly after, freshman Alyssa Acuna hit the ball to right center, for an RBI double.

The Eagles gave the Dustdevils a fright in the top of the 7th, as they scored two runs off of a homerun by OC's shortstop, Kendra Pierce, with only one out on the board. Though, TAMIU ended the inning sharply after, with a fly ball to junior
Chelsea Capello in left field, and a routine ground-out to B. Parnin.

Sophomore B.  Parnin led the team this afternoon, batting 3-4, scoring two runs, and recording an RBI. Also having a great game was Mussett and Gallardo, both going 2-3 in game two and each adding two RBI.

Rivera pinch hit in the 4th inning for the Dustdevils and went 1-1, batting a run in for the Dustdevils.

Mussett recorded her fifth home run of the season in game two. A trio of Dustdevils hit doubles this afternoon (Capello, Gallardo, and Acuna).

TAMIU's senior
Sarah Johnson (6-1) tacked on the win for the Dustdevils, throwing all seven innings, and only allowing eight hits.

The Dustdevils will be back in action tomorrow afternoon at Dustdevil Field to complete the 3-game series against Oklahoma Christian.
