Dustdevils Wrap Up 3-Game Sweep Against Eagles

LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International wrapped up a three-game Heartland Conference sweep of Oklahoma Christian with a 6-3 win over the Lady Eagles on Friday afternoon at Dustdevil Field.

TAMIU (15-14, 8-1 Heartland) broke out the bats out early, scoring four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning.  The scoring got started when Alyssa Acuna slapped a bases loaded single to right field to drive in Brenda Parnin.  The next batter, Alyssa Soneff, then drilled a line drive triple to the right field fence to score three runs and push the Dustdevils to a 4-0 lead.
Parnin boosted the TAMIU lead to 6-0 when she belted a two-run home run over the scoreboard in right field in the bottom of the second inning.

OC (8-9, 0-6) would score three runs in the top of the third inning, two of them unearned off of TAMIU freshman starter Delainy Thompson but that would be all of the scoring the Lady Eagles would muster for the day.  Thompson (4-6) earned the win with her ninth complete game effort in as many starts.  She allowed one earned run on seven hits with five strikeouts and six walks.

Even though two TAMIU errors led to two unearned runs for Oklahoma Christian, solid defense by left fielder Chelsea Capello helped boost TAMIU to the win.  Capello ended the Lady Eagle third inning with a diving catch of a line drive foul ball before ending the sixth inning with a throw to the plate that resulted in OC's Madison Nordyke being tagged out as she was trying to score from second base.

TAMIU returns to action next weekend with a three-game Heartland Conference series at Rogers State.
