Dustdevils Power through Rogers State with Two Run-Rule Wins

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils (17-14, 10-1 Heartland) powered through the Rogers State Hillcats (7-14, 4-6 Heartland) Friday night at the Diamond Sports Complex, as the team recorded their season-high runs (11), in the mix with a trio of Dustdevils slamming five home runs on the night.

GAME ONE: Texas A&M International 9, Rogers State 1

The Dustdevils started off strong as they quickly took the 2-0 lead after the 1st inning, scoring two unearned runs off a Hillcat throwing error.

TAMIU added to the pile of runs in the top of the 2nd, by scoring four runs off of two Dustdevil home runs. First was junior
Chelsea Capello with a 3-run home run, and then following a home run to left center by sophomore Brittany Mussett.

The Hillcats were able to score one run in the bottom of the 3rd, making the score 6-1 Dustdevils.

Though, TAMIU would shortly put an end to the game by scoring three more runs in the top of the 4th off a 3-RBI double by senior
Mariena Gallardo down the left field line, giving the Dustdevils an eight run lead. By shutting out Rogers State in the 5th, the run-rule determined the 9-1 win for TAMIU.

Gallardo (6-4) pitched the entire five innings played, and only allowed one run on four hits, while striking out one batter.

Offensively, Mussett led the team in batting average going 2-3 with three runs and one RBI. Capello and sophomore
Brenda Parnin went 1-2 with two runs apiece. Gallardo and freshman Alyssa Soneff each had a hit, while Gallardo's three RBI sealed the deal for the TAMIU win. Sophomore Anna Parnin recorded a sacrifice hit in game one.

GAME TWO: Texas A&M International 11, Rogers State 3

Game two was a thriller as the Dustdevils scored their season-high 11 runs and 15 hits on one Hillcat error. In game two, a trio of TAMIU power hitters each had a home run, making it five on the day for the Dustdevils (sophomore
Brenda Parnin, junior Brittany Mussett, and senior Mariena Gallardo), while junior Chelsea Capello attained a double, aiding to TAMIU's 11-3 win over Rogers State in six innings played.

TAMIU's offense was spectacular as Capello and Mussett each went 3-4, and B. Parnin and Gallardo went 2-3. Mussett recorded her second home run of the day, and currently leads the Dustdevils with seven on the season.

B. Parnin led the team in RBI with three, while Mussett, Gallardo, and sophomore
Anna Parnin each had two. Freshman Alyssa Soneff and A. Parnin went .500, while freshman Brandi Giles went 1-3 and freshman Alyssa Acuna went 1-4 on the night with one RBI.

The Hillcats' offense was active, as their team also had a trio of home runs. But, with great TAMIU pitching, and a strong TAMIU defense, the Hillcats were only able to score three runs off of those home runs.

Senior
Sarah Johnson (7-1) pitched the six innings, allowing nine hits and three runs. Johnson struck out seven Hillcat batters on the night.

Tomorrow the Dustdevils will finish up the series against Rogers State - playing one conference game, and one non-conference game. Start times are set for 12 and 2 p.m.
