Dustdevils go 3-1 (3-0 Heartland Conference) against RSU this Weekend

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The top-Heartland Conference seed Texas A&M International University Dustdevils (18-15, 11-1 Heartland) split with the Rogers State Hillcats (8-15, 4-7 Heartland) on day two of the four-game series, going 3-1 (3-0 Heartland) on the weekend.

GAME ONE: Texas A&M International 5, Rogers State 1

After winning two games against Rogers State on Friday, the Dustdevils pulled through with their conference sweep against the Hillcats Saturday afternoon, as the Parnin twins led the team in hits (
Brenda Parnin going 2-2 with one RBI, and Anna Parnin going 2-3 with one run).

Senior
Mariena Gallardo recorded a double, while junior Chelsea Capello and sophomore Ashley Hight each had a sacrifice hit on the afternoon.

The Dustdevils started the game out with one run in the top of the 1st, as Capello scored on a wild pitch by Rogers State's pitcher, Rachel Jones.

TAMIU dominated in the 3rd and 4th innings, scoring two runs in each. In the 3rd, A. Parnin started out the inning with a single to left field. Following her, sophomore
Krissy Sardelich walked, moving A. Parnin to second. Next up, Capello's sacrifice bunt moved A. Parnin and Sardelich to 2nd and 3rd, where B. Parnin then came up swinging and singled to left field for an RBI, and scored Sardelich on a trick play trying to steal to second base.

In the 4th inning, a muster of hits by Gallardo, freshman
Alyssa Soneff, and freshman Alyssa Acuna scored two additional runs for the Dustdevils

Rogers State tried to catch up with runs, though could only accumulate one unearned in the bottom of the 4th as TAMIU's defense was tough, and the Dustdevils pitcher, freshman
Delainy Thompson (5-6), pitched a complete game and didn't allow any earned runs, striking out six on the afternoon.

GAME TWO: Texas A&M International 6, Rogers State 7

After going 3-0 against the Hillcats, the Dustdevils fell to Rogers State in the non-conference finale, as the Hillcats outnumbered the Dustdevils in hits (7-to-14).

Rogers State was eager to score some runs, as they only scored five in the previous three games – so they came out strong and got on top in the 1st with two runs. The Hillcats added two more in the bottom of the 3rd to take the 4-0 jump on TAMIU.

Though, in the top of the 4th, TAMIU dominated and scored five runs off three hits, including a home run by junior
Chelsea Capello - her second in the four-game series.

Despite TAMIU's powerful inning in the 4th, Rogers State came back with three runs in the 5th to take the 7-5 lead, only allowing the Dustdevils to score one more in the 6th for the 7-6 win.

Freshman
Brandi Giles (0-3) took the loss for the Dustdevils, pitching 4.1 innings and allowing six runs on 12 Hillcat hits.

Freshman
Alyssa Acuna led the Dustdevils in game two of the afternoon, going 3-4 at the plate and scoring one run for TAMIU. Pinch hitter, sophomore Brittany Mussett, went 1-1 on the afternoon with two runs. Capello also added to TAMIU's runs going 1-2 at the plate, scoring one run, and attaining two RBI.

Next up the Dustdevils will take on St. Edward's University (17-12, 5-4 Heartland) in Austin Mar. 27 and 28.
