9th Inning Thriller Gives Dustdevils a 5-2 Win over SEOS

DURANT, Okla. – The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils (9-16) competed against the non-conference Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm (10-13) Sunday afternoon, coming away with the 5-2 win in in the top of the 9th inning off a run on a wild pitch, and a 2-RBI single by senior Andrew Arteaga.

The game was scoreless until the Savage Storm scored one run in the bottom of the 3rd.

TAMIU then answered with one run each in the 5th and 6th innings to take the 2-1 lead. In the 5th inning, sophomore
Daniel Cruz slammed a homer over the left field wall. In the 6th, freshman Brandon Colorado started out the inning with a single to shortstop. Next up, sophomore Alexander Cabezas had a sacrifice bunt to advance Colorado to second. With Colorado in scoring position, junior Cody Perez singled to center field for an RBI to take the lead.

In the bottom of the 8th, SEOS returned swinging as they tied the game up at two. But that wasn't good enough as TAMIU then pulled through in the top of the 9th to score three runs and take the win.

While junior
Sammy Alvarado started on the mound for the Dustdevils striking out seven Savage Storm players, senior Dino Cristiani (2-1) marked the win for the Dustdevils as he came in to pitch in the 5th inning and only allowed three hits and one earned run.

Next up the Dustdevils will take on a doubleheader against Houston-Victoria on Tuesday in Victoria, Texas at 3 and 6 p.m.
