Dustdevils Drop Two against Houston-Victoria

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 VICTORIA, Texas – The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils (9-18) dropped two games in a non-conference doubleheader against the Houston-Victoria Jaguars (17-13) Wednesday evening at Riverside Stadium.

GAME ONE: Texas A&M International 2, Houston-Victoria 5
The Dustdevils went on a 2-0 run to start the game off, until the Jaguars scored four runs in the bottom of the 5^th to take the 4-2 lead off a 3-run homerun over the left field fence by Houston-Victoria's Victor Coronado, followed by another homerun by Joshua Ledesma.

Houston-Victoria added one more run in the bottom of the 6^th increasing their lead to three. TAMIU needed to score three runs to tie the game in the top of the 7^th, but missed the opportunity. There was hope when sophomore Robert Quintanilla doubled down the left field line to start the inning out, but two Dustdevil strikeouts and a ground out quickly ended the game.

Senior centerfielder, Andrew Arteaga, led the Dustdevils in game one, going 2-3 at the plate, recording the two RBI on the game off a double. Also going 2-3 at the plate was juniorNathan Halas. Junior Jeffrey Morgan went 1-2, while Quintanilla went 1-3. Juniors Reynaldo Adames and Cody Perez each went 1-4, and each scored a run at the plate off of a hit from Arteaga.

Junior Daniel Edmondo (0-1) recorded the loss for the Dustdevils, as he pitched 4.2 innings and gave up five hits and four runs. Edmondo struck out two on the afternoon.

GAME TWO: Texas A&M International 8, Houston-Victoria 9
The Dustdevils took the Jaguars into extra innings in game two of the doubleheader, but dropped the game in the bottom of the 10^th as a combination of walks, hit by pitches, and sacrifice hits scored a Houston-Victoria player across the plate to steal the win.

Despite the loss, the Dustdevils performed well offensively as they scored eight runs on 16 hits. The Dustdevils also took the lead from the Jaguars three times throughout the game.

Juniors Nathan Halas and Jeffrey Morgan both went 3-5 with two and one RBI, respectively. They each walked once as well, making their on base percentage .666 on the game. Sophomore Alexander Cabezas, senior Jake Cardoza, and sophomore Daniel Cruz went 2-5, scoring 2-1-1 runs, respectively. Junior Cody Perez matched the team-high two RBI with Halas. Sophomore Robert Quintanilla also had one RBI.

The Dustdevils had a total of eight pitchers take the mound throughout game two. Senior Mark Munoz (0-1) took the TAMIU loss, as he pitched 0.1 innings and gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 10^th.

This Friday and Saturday, the Dustdevils will take on Heartland Conference opponent, Oklahoma Panhandle State University (3-22, 2-7 Heartland) at Jorge Haynes Field in Laredo, Texas.
