Dustdevils Down Oklahoma Panhandle State Friday Afternoon

LAREDO, Texas – The Texas A&M International University downed the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies in a doubleheader Friday afternoon at Jorge Haynes Field Friday afternoon.
 
GAME ONE: Texas A&M International 4, Oklahoma Panhandle State 3
The Dustdevils and Aggies battled in game one, as they won the game in the 11th inning, as senior Andrew Arteaga scored on an OPSU shortstop error.
 
After the first inning, the game was tied at one. TAMIU took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd on a single through the right side by senior Andrew Arteaga, scoring sophomore Alex Cabezas at the plate (whom reached on base from a hit by pitch, stole second, and advanced to third on a hit by junior Cody Perez.
 
The Aggies tied it up in the top of the 6th, but the Dustdevils were able to come back and take the lead in the bottom of the 6th on an error, making the score 3-2. Though, the Aggies tied it up once again with an unearned run in the top of the 7th to make it a ballgame.
 
The next four innings went scoreless, until the Dustdevils took the win in the bottom of the 11th.
 
Arteaga led the Dustdevils, going 3-4 at the plate, with two runs and one RBI. Behind him was Cabezas going 2-4 with two runs. Also getting hits on the afternoon were Perez and junior Jeffrey Morgan with one and two hits, respectively.
 
Senior Jeremy Gonzalez started on the mound for the Dustdevils, pitching six innings, striking out six, and allowing two runs. Senior Dylan Allen (1-2) recorded the win for the Dustdevils, as he pitched one inning in the top of the 11th, allowing no hits and no runs.
 
GAME TWO: Texas A&M International 2, Oklahoma Panhandle State 1
Game two went scoreless until the bottom of the 6th inning when the Dustdevils scored two runs on four hits to take the 2-0 lead on the Aggies.
 
In order for the Aggies to make a comeback, they needed at least two runs in the top of the 7th, but TAMIU's superb pitching by senior Dino Cristiani and defense only allowed one run, giving the Dustdevils the 2-1 win over the Aggies. Senior Marty Bigham (1-1) recorded the win for the Dustdevils, while Cristiani notched his fourth save of the season.
 
TAMIU's sophomore Alex Cabezas, senior Eric Moritz, and junior Cody Perez went 1.000 on the day with one hit each. Also hitting for the Dustdevils were senior Andrew Arteaga, senior Jake Cardoza, sophomore Daniel Cruz, and junior Nathan Halas. Arteaga and Cruz each marked an RBI in game two.
 
Tomorrow the Dustdevils will finish up the three-game series against OPSU at Jorge Haynes Field with a 12 p.m. start time.
