Dustdevils Sweep Oklahoma Panhandle Aggies

LAREDO, Texas – The Texas A&M International Dustdevils (12-18, 4-8 Heartland) rallied with the Oklahoma Panhandle Aggies (3-27, 2-10 Heartland) Saturday afternoon for the 18-10 win, while grabbing a team-high 18 runs in the 2015 season.

The Dustdevils got a grip on the bats and went away swinging, as they got a 13-0 lead on the Aggies in the first four innings, scoring 4-4-5 runs in the 1st, 3rd, and 4th innings, respectively.

Just as the Dustdevils thought they had the game, the Aggies came back in the 6th and 7th inning with nine runs in the 6th and 7th innings. Though, OPSU was only able to score one more run in the top of the 8th, and the Dustdevils added to their lead in the bottom of the 8th, making the score 10-18 Dustdevils.

Senior pitcher, Garret Taggart (1-4), had a phenomenal performance on the mound, as he pitched a no-hitter until the 5th inning. Taggart recorded the win for the Dustdevils, pitching six innings, and only allowing five hits and three runs. Taggart also struck out five on the afternoon.

Senior leftfielder, Jake Cardoza, went 2-2, scoring four runs and recording an RBI. Junior Nathan Halas went 4-5 with three runs and three RBI on the afternoon. Sophomore Daniel Cruz and senior Andrew Arteaga each went 2-4. Arteaga had four runs for the Dustdevils, while Cruz had the team-high four RBI against the Aggies. Junior Jeffrey Morgan also batted .500 as he went 3-6 with one run and three RBI.

Five Dustdevils notched doubles against OPSU: Perez, Cruz, Halas, junior Erasmo Gonzalez, and sophomore Aaron Navarro.

Next up the Dustdevils will travel to Claremore, Okla. to face Rogers State in a three-game series on April 2-3.
