Dustdevils Split on Day Two Against the St. Edward’s Hilltoppers

AUSTIN, Texas – The top Heartland Conference seeded Texas A&M International University Dustdevils split with the St. Edward's University Hilltoppers Saturday afternoon at Diane Daniels Field.
 

GAME ONE: Texas A&M International University 2, St. Edward's 1
In the bottom of the 1st, the St. Edward's Hilltoppers scored one run on a sacrifice bunt. The Dustdevils answered with two runs in the top of the 2nd to take the 2-1 lead.
 
Throughout the remainder of the game, pitching was on point, and defense was spectacular, as no more runs were scored. TAMIU took the 2-0 win, to make their Heartland Conference record a stunning 13-1.
 
TAMIU's senior Sarah Johnson (8-1) recorded the win for the Dustdevils. Johnson pitched a complete game and only allowed one run on six hits. Johnson also struck out four Hilltoppers.
 
Sophomore Krissy Sardelich led the Dustdevils offensively, going 3-3 at the plate, and scoring one run. Sophomore Anna Parnin went 1-1 and recorded an RBI.  Freshman Alyssa Soneff went 1-2 and scored one run for TAMIU.
 

GAME TWO: Texas A&M International 0, St. Edward's 6
After winning the first two games of the series, the Dustdevils fell to the Hilltoppers in game three 0-6, as the Dustdevils weren't able to get up on the scoreboard with runs. Despite the loss, TAMIU still had eight hits on the afternoon (just one less than St. Edward's).
 
St. Edward's continually scored throughout the game, as they scored in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings.
 
Freshman Delainy Thompson pitched all six innings, and took the loss as she allowed nine hits, six runs (four earned), and struck out three.
 
Offensively, freshman Alyssa Acuna went 2-3, while junior Chelsea Capello went 2-4 on the afternoon. Sophomore Brenda Parnin hit a double in the 1st inning, and Capello recorded a stolen base.
 
Next up the Dustdevils will take on St. Mary's University in Laredo, Texas on April 2-3.
