Dustdevils Split with Saints

LAREDO, Texas - Texas A&M International University Dustdevils and the Our Lady of the Lake Saints split a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Uni-Trade Stadium.  TAMIU (16-25) won the opener 5-4 and OLLU (21-24) took the second game 8-1.

 
GAME ONE: Texas A&M International 5, Our Lady of the Lake 4
TAMIU trailed 4-1 going into the bottom of the seventh inning in the opener before pulling off a dramatic win with a three-run rally.  Andrew Arteaga and Daniel Cruz tied the game with back-to-back RBI doubles before Connor Belvin won the game with an RBI single up the middle.  Belvin pinch hit for Brandon Colorado, who left the game after fouling the first pitch of the at bat off of his face.
 
Earlier in the contest Colorado tied the score 1-1 with a RBI double in the fourth inning.  OLLU then took a 4-1 lead with three unearned runs on three Dustdevil errors in the top of the fifth inning.
 
Nick Perales (2-1) earned the win for the Dustdevils.  He allowed no runs on two hits in 2.2 innings of work with two strikeouts and no walks.  Garrett Taggert had a solid start for the Dustdevils in a no decision outing, allowing only one earned run with three strikeouts and three walks in 4.1 innings.
 

GAME TWO: Texas A&M International 1, Our Lady of the Lake 8
OLLU scored three runs on two hits in the fourth inning of game two to take a commanding 4-1 lead.  The Dustdevils managed four hits the rest of the way but only one runner would reach scoring position.
 
Sammy Alvardo (2-2) took the loss for the Dustdevils in game two.  He allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in 3.2 innings of work.
 
Next up, the Dustdevils will take on St. Edward's University in Austin Friday and Saturday for a conference 3-game series. St. Edward's is currently ranked 23rd in the national polls, and currently holds a 31-9 record.
