Dustdevils wrap up 3-Game Series against No. 7 St. Mary’s

LAREDO, Texas – The Texas A&M International University Dustdevils (20-19, 13-5 Heartland) wrapped up their third game against the No. 7 St. Mary's Rattlers Friday (31-7, 12-2 Heartland) afternoon, as the Rattlers took the 9-1 win off of six hits and three Dustdevil errors.

The Dustdevils also had six hits on the afternoon, but failed to score a run until the bottom of the 5th inning, where they were already too deep in a hole. St. Mary's took the win on the 8-run mercy rule to sweep the Dustdevils in the 3-game series, passing the Dustdevils in the Heartland Conference standings. The Dustdevils now stand at 3rd place, behind St. Mary's and Lubbock Christian.

Freshman Delainy Thompson (5-8) started in the pitcher's circle, as she took her eighth loss of the season in 2.2 innings pitched. Thompson struck out three St. Mary's batters on the afternoon. Freshman Brandi Giles came in to relieve Thompson, pitching 2.1 innings and only allowing one hit, and one earned run. Giles struck out one Rattler batter.

Sophomore Brittany Mussett led the Dustdevils Friday afternoon, as she went 2-3 at the plate with the sole TAMIU RBI in the bottom of the 5th inning. Junior Chelsea Capello batted 1-3 and scored the sole run on the hit by Mussett. Batting at .500 on the afternoon, was sophomore Krissy Sardelich, going 1-2 at the plate.

Next up, the Dustdevils will face Tarleton State on the road for a doubleheader on April 8 starting at 1 p.m. TAMIU previously faced Tarleton State three times, and are 1-2 against the TexAnns this season.
